City Overview

  Kensington

Kensington is a prestigious village in the hills between El cerrito and Berkeley. It is an un-incorporated area of Contra Costa county consisting of 1.1 square miles. Although Kensington is governed by the county, Kensington controls its own affairs through local organizations and has its own police fire departments. First settled by Squatters in the post-Gold Rush era in the 1860s, Kensington was originall part of the Francisco Castro Land Grant created in 1823. The Kensington area was originally called Rancho San Pablo. Much like Albany, the full development of Kensington did not begin until after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, at which time many families flocked to the East Bay area to relocate.

With the aesthetic beauty of fantastic bay views, steep, winding roads and forested hills, you will come to appreciate the serenity of the Kensington area. Along with the beauty and peacefulness, you will also be able to anjoy the luxury of being close to the activies of Albany and Berkeley, such as, plays, movies, marina, fishing pier, symphony concerts and sports.
